Nonviolent Living: Truth, Love & Courage

  • Google Calendar ICS

Nonviolence is a philosophy, a strategy and a choice. The Gandhi King Season for Nonviolence (SNV) commences on January 30 and continues through April 4th, spanning the memorial anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in cities across the globe. The annual 64 day campaign, co-founded in 1998 by Dr. Arun Gandhi and The Association for Global New Thought (AGNT), is an educational, media and grassroots awareness campaign which demonstrate that peace is a powerful way to heal, improve our lives and empower our communities.

In solidarity with other communities practicing the season of nonviolence in the "Nonviolent Living: Truth, Love, Courage" program we will be exploring what it means to show up in the world everyday, as an individual and a community, consciously committed to nonviolence. Each member of the team will also create their personal Nonviolent Vision and Plan as a touchstone to guide them through 2018 and years to come. We will meet online for 9 sessions over a ten week period, on Wednesday evenings from 6pm to 8pm PST using Zoom internet meeting technology (you will be able to call in with phone or join via computer). There will be home assignments every week and an online group to support the work we do throughout the program.

Throughout our journey we will follow the Dalai Lama's book Ethics for the New Millennium as a study guide. We will also be exploring the practices of Nonviolent communication, Restorative justice and Satyagraha to support our commitment to compassion. It is recommended that all participants at least begin to read the Ethics for the New Millennium by the Dalai Lama and Nonviolent Communication: the language of life by Marshall Rosenberg to prepare for the program. An online group page will be created before the class begins with additional resources.

All sessions will be recorded and provided to the participants.  I am hoping this will allow participants to benefit from the program even if they are not able to participate live.

Program days and times:

  • 9 meetings,
  • Wednesdays 6-8pm PST
  • January 31, February 4, 14, 21, 28, March 14, 21, 28, April 4

In order to bring the focus, joy and presence I am wanting to bring to creating and facilitating this program I am wanting to raise a minimum of $900 in contributions to support my time and effort.   I request that all participants in the program financially contribute some amount towards this minimum goal.  If you are able to contribute between $100 - $180 towards the 9 week program while also showing up with joy and peace around your time and resources, please do.  If not, please contribute what you can given your financial obligations and circumstances.
